Dressing right for the winter season

Winter Fashion Wishlist (SOURCE: http://www.thefashionpolice.net)Winter is here with its gloomy days and misty weather resulting in wet socks, soggy clothes, and frizzy hair if you don’t dress right.

But, ladies and gentlemen, don’t fret. There are some hot winter trends and styles that will not only keep you warm but also will change your negative disposition about the gloomy weather and keep you looking fresh.

For men and women in the Pacific Northwest, common words buzzing about are rain, trees, hiking, and, of course, the North Face.

All around BC you see various personalities wearing the North Face logo on jackets, coats, and fleece sweaters. North Face is popular with so many different people because of its wide array of styles and simple designs that appeal to everyone. From bomber jackets to parkas to simple fleece thermal jackets, North Face offers simple designs in various colors and textures.

You don’t have to be athletic or into hiking every weekend to wear this label. North Face seems to be about functionality with many hidden pockets and comfort.

North Face is an athletic, trendy look, but if you want to go in a different direction, there is always the classic pea coat.

The pea coat is always in style and has been very popular with men and women over the years.

These coats are sold in practically every store from Old Navy to H&M to Banana Republic.

They pull together any outfit and can be dressed down with jeans or dressed up with slacks or dresses.

The double-breasted pea coat seems to be the most popular, but there’s also the single-breasted with just one column of buttons, and the more military-looking pea coat with shoulder epaulets.

Pea coats represent a classic style and are something that should hang in everyone’s closet.

Let’s talk about women’s shoes. Shoes can transform every outfit from dull into what it should look like. They finish the look and take your outfit to the next level. Boots seem to be all the rage this winter.

Women are not just wearing some form of Uggs or sneakers with thick socks, but are now thinking outside the box and gravitating toward suede and leather boots. Leather boots are sexy and come in so many different styles. Leather boot trends range from a high thick heel to a completely flat simple boot.

Calf-length and knee-length seem to be what’s in, and slouchy suede or sleek and straight boots are seen everywhere as well. Over the years we’ve seen a lot of pull-on slouchy suede boots that can be worn at the mall, school, work, on dates, or wherever; this style of boot is comfortable and very trendy.

Whether they have buttons on the sides or chains and studs near the bottom, zip up, or slide on, all of the different types of boots are great picks this winter for style and comfort.

With leggings, thermals, cardigans, and even jewelry, layering is the way to go this winter. You can still wear that cute little dress in the cold weather. Just add some leggings and a long sleeve underneath or a cardigan over it.

Cute tank tops can look good over long sleeves as well, and can be worn all year long.

You can make use of every piece of clothing in your closet by layering it with tights, leggings, thermals, etc. Layering necklaces and bracelets is trendy, too. Take several necklaces: some long ones, some shorter ones and wear them at the same time to give your outfit a different look.

Different gold or silver necklaces are funky to layer on top of each other.

Various bangles and chains mix together nicely as bracelets.

Just because the weather is drab doesn’t mean you have to look drab. Go shopping or pair stuff in your closet you normally wouldn’t.

There are many trends you can take advantage of to keep you stylish and warm this winter.
