Funny Fey: making a name for herself

Tina Fey is one of the funniest and most intelligent comedians to grace the NBC television network. Her acting, as well as her writing, has resulted in many a giggle.

Elizabeth Stamatina Fey was born May 18, 1970, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. She was quite the student at Upper Darby High School, where she was an honor student, a choir member, tennis player, drama club member and co-editor of the school newspaper.

Fey graduated in 1992 from the University of Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in drama.

She became part of the “Saturday Night Live” team in 1997 as a writer for the show. In 1998, Fey started making appearances on the show but struggled at first. In the year following, Fey became the head writer for SNL.

In 2000, Fey teamed up with Late Night TV host Jimmy Fallon to do the Weekend Update segment of SNL.

Fey won the Writers Guild of America Award in 2001 for SNL’s 25th anniversary special, and in 2002, she and her team won an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Program.

In 2004, Fallon left SNL and Fey teamed up with Amy Poehler for the Weekend Update.

One of Fey’s most popular SNL parodies were her skits as Sarah Palin, which generated over 5.7 million views in less than a week.

She won another Emmy in 2008 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her Palin impersonations.

One of Fey’s more recent accomplishments is her writing on the show “30 Rock,” which aired in October 2006. The show is based on a group of people working for the NBC studio at 30 Rockefeller Plaza.

Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) is the head writer of “The Girlie Show” until her new boss, Jack Donaghy (Alex Baldwin), insists that former movie star Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan) be added to the program.

Lemon, as she is commonly referred to in the show by Jack Donaghy, tries to keep the show together and running smoothly. Her friend, Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski), plays the former headlining star that is quite superficial. Other characters include NBC producer Pete Hornberger (Scott Adsit), writer Frank Rossitano (Judah Friedlander), and NBC page Kenneth Parcell (Jack McBrayer).

Fey has also been featured in a variety of different movies, her most recent being “Date Night” with Steve Carell.

Fey also wrote and produced the movie “Mean Girls,” which was based off Fey’s High School life at Upper Darby High School.

She was also cast in the movie “Baby Mama” with former SNL cast mate Amy Poehler, who played a white trash surrogate mother while Fey played the successful businesswoman who was unable to get pregnant.

Fey has also done voice characters for several shows and movies, including the animated TV series “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” as the teens’ mother, a giant burrito, and the animated film “Ponyo” as the character Lisa.

Fey is one of the most successful comedians/writers of today and is popular among an extremely wide variety of people.
