Farmer’s market comes to BC

BellevueCollege welcomes the fourth annual Farmers’ Market to campus. On Tuesday, April 23, the market will be held in the Courtyard for any intrigued passers-by to check out. The event advertises the market at a chance to “Meet Your Farmer” at BC, and proudly presents local farmers, beekeepers, bakers and more!

The event will feature Misty Mountain Honey, a group planted at home in the Cascade foothills in the heart of the fertile Snoqualmie River Valley. Misty Mountain will have raw local honey, honey sticks and home-dipped and -molded beeswax candles.

Fancy Free Bakery goods, which offers baked goods prepared in a dedicated gluten-free and peanut-free kitchen, with delicious dairy-free, soy-free, and optionally egg-free treats to choose from.

Other local farmers will also be in attendence and to check out BC’s raised garden beds located outside behind the green house. There will be booths, Food and Water Watch, and BC Sustainability speakers among other educating and appealing events and deals. Prospective buyers are encouraged to bring a reusable bag to the event.

An on-campus farmers’ market provides an alluring opportunity for students, staff, faculty and visitors alike to engage in the system of production and distribution. “Food is something we all share and all need,” Alex Clark, Communications Coordinator for BC’s Sustainability Department, and “the system that feeds us is a highly destructive one.” The market at BC “brings the world of local food and the abundance of our local agriculture” together, Clark explained “and sheds a spotlight on markets so our students can learn about the benefits of local food.”
