There are some pretty ridiculous things being sold on eBay nowadays, starting from “original” celebrity autographs (ranging from $4 to $125) to ridiculously expensive “original” celebrity photographs, and for those who love movies (and who are willing to spend a lot of cash,) Hollywood movie costumes range from $40 to more than a thousand dollars!

But I bet no one saw this coming: Ellen DeGeneres sold a lock of Justin Bieber’s hair on eBay for $40,668 last week Wednesday!

According to Los Angeles Times’ “Ministry of Gossip: The Gospel on Celebrity and Pop Culture,” after trimming his tresses, Justin Bieber put a lock of his hair in a box signed to Ellen DeGeneres for her to sell at auction.

The money gained by a single lock of hair (shipping was free) will be donated to the Gentle Barn, an animal rescue operating in Santa Clarita. At least something good came out of something so ridiculous.

The lucky bidder (I would say an extremely obsessed Bieber fan) will get to meet the star himself when he appears on DeGeneres’ show.

Wear a hat, Justin. Keep your hair hidden or you just might end up losing it all, when your obsessed fan cannot keep off your beautiful shiny new haircut.

On a second note, I would love to see what Selena Gomez does after finding out you had just been attacked by a super obsessed fan and lost all of your hair.

But don’t worry, a lot of many innocent animals will be so thankful for your little lock of hair (hopefully with no split ends.)

Although the bidding was restricted to preapproved buyers, to avoid obsessed fans getting out of control, 98 bids were placed.

During the last 30 minutes of the bid, the price rose from $17,000 to $40,688. I don’t know what surprises me the most:the fact that someone wanted a lock of Bieber’s hair so bad, or that someone wanted to help farm animals, really, really badly.

But at the end of the day, animals are happy, obsessed fan’s dream is going to come true, and Bieber loves his new haircut. Yay for eBay!
