March 2-5, 2013, Bellevue College’s  Women’s basketball team headed to Kennewick, Wash., to participate in the annual Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament. Representing Bellevue College proudly, the BC women’s basketball team placed fifthoverall in the women’s division. Unfortunately, the men’s team did not qualify for the NWAACC tournament.

Marcus Tibbs, BC student and former member of the BC men’s basketball team commented, “Our men’s team did not reach our goal of making it to the tournament and winning it outright, but we did fight hard to only be one game out of the playoffs. We have been through a lot as a team and as a family for this year and hopefully they can get it done next year.” Tibbs is planning on transferring to a four-year college next year and hopes to continue playing basketball for the school that he chooses.

As for the BC women’s basketball team, Tibbs said, “The women did not reach their outright goal which was to take first, but they did reach their goal of getting in the tournament and placing fifth overall was a great accomplishment.”

BC Women’s basketball played in four games spanning over March 2 – 5, winning a total of three of them and only defeated in one. On March 2, BC played Tacoma and won with a whopping score of 80-53. On March 3, BC played Chemeketa and lost by a hair with a score of 78-73. March 4, BC played Centralia and won 64-48. Lastly, the BC women’s team competed against Clark and won with a score of 62-61.  The NWAACC tournament brings a close to the basketball season for both BC men’s and women’s basketball teams.
